My name is Chester, but my friends call me Chaz. I managed to become Chief Logistics Officer in less than a year and I’m going to tell you how I made this happen. I started working at my dad’s company, Rockfield Industries, when I was 27 year’s old at an entry-level position of senior manager. I told my dad that I think my talents are going to waste at such a junior level, but my dad said I needed actual work experience first. As a senior manager, I had 10 people working under me, some of whom have been with the company for over 20 years and I can tell they were really excited to have me as their boss. As their leader, I knew I had their respect because they would call me the “bosses kid” and “prince”. Only someone with my leadership qualities is shown that kind of respect. I was such a good boss; they would even have meetings without me.
After 9 months of excellent performance, I asked my dad for a promotion and he said no. He said he would increase my salary but there is no way he will make me a Vice-President. It was at this point, I was very concerned I would not meet my career goals of being a C-Suite executive by the age of 30. For about a month I was having nightmares that I was still a senior manager and my friends would make fun of me. Everything started to change when I was out late one night and ran into an old fraternity brother, Ignacio, or as we call him, Noz. He was telling me about his new position as the head of his family’s logistics business that transports ‘pharmaceuticals’ across the border and I told him about my career goals. At the end of the night, he offered me the position as Chief Logistics Officer for his family business. After spending the day thinking about the offer and my dad vehemently denying my request for a promotion, I left my seven figure job and joined Noz’s family business south of the border.
